Pinguicula gypsicola {Buena Vista, San Luis Potosí} is a perennial heterophyllous butterwort with a fascinating seasonal growth cycle. First discovered northwest of San Luis Potosí, Mexico, this species is adapted to grow in gypsum-rich soils, reflected in its name: “gypsicola,” from the Latin gypsum (mineral) and colere (inhabit).
