Pinguicula gypsicola {Buena Vista, San Luis Potosí} is a perennial heterophyllous butterwort with a fascinating seasonal growth cycle. This species produces slender, non-carnivorous winter leaves and transforms into striking carnivorous summer leaves covered in sticky glands that attract and digest small insects.
First discovered northwest of San Luis Potosí, Mexico, this species is adapted to grow in gypsum-rich soils, reflected in its name: “gypsicola,” from the Latin gypsum (mineral) and colere (inhabit). Its slender, grassy appearance and unique adaptations make it a highly collectible species for carnivorous plant enthusiasts.
Perfect for terrariums, greenhouses, or display collections, Pinguicula gypsicola offers both rarity and botanical intrigue.
