Pinguicula medusina is a perennial heterophyllous butterwort species native to gypsum hills near Laguna Encantata, just north of Santiago Juxtlahuaca in Oaxaca, Mexico. Discovered by Alfred Lau in 1977 and officially recognized as a species in 2000, this rare plant is closely related to Pinguicula heterophylla.
It produces glandular carnivorous leaves during summer to capture small insects, and forms a subterranean bulb during winter to survive seasonal changes. Uniquely, P. medusina can also propagate by forming small plantlets at the ends of its leaves, making it both fascinating and rewarding to grow.
A highly collectible carnivorous plant, Pinguicula medusina is ideal for enthusiasts seeking a rare species with exceptional adaptation and history.
