Planting and Growing Instructions:
1. When to Plant:
-
Sow indoors in late winter to early spring, or sow outdoors in late fall for natural stratification.
2. Seed Starting Indoors:
-
Stratification is recommended: refrigerate seeds for 4–6 weeks before sowing.
-
Sow on the surface of a moist seed-starting mix—do not cover, as light aids germination.
-
Keep at 55–65°F (13–18°C).
-
Mist to keep moist but not soggy.
-
Germination may take 21–40 days or longer—be patient.
3. Transplanting:
-
Transplant seedlings once they have 2–3 true leaves.
-
Space plants 10–12 inches apart in rich, moist, well-draining soil.
-
Best planted in areas with morning sun and afternoon shade, or dappled light throughout the day.
4. Growing Care:
-
Keep soil evenly moist but not waterlogged.
-
Mulch in summer to retain soil moisture.
-
Cut back spent flower stalks to encourage new growth.
-
In colder zones, protect with mulch in winter.
