This sphere is carved from Yooperlite, a syenite rock containing fluorescent sodalite. Under normal light, Yooperlite appears gray to dark, but when exposed to ultraviolet (UV) light, the sodalite inclusions glow bright orange-yellow, creating a dramatic visual effect.
Details:
- Material: Yooperlite (syenite with fluorescent sodalite)
- Size: Approximately 2.5 inches in diameter
- Appearance: Smooth, polished gray sphere; bright orange-yellow fluorescence under UV light
- Formation: Formed from igneous processes, with sodalite inclusions producing unique fluorescence
- Physical Properties: Mohs hardness 5.5–6; polished surface; UV-reactive
- Educational Value: Demonstrates mineral fluorescence, sodalite inclusion in igneous rocks, and how UV light reveals hidden mineral features
This Yooperlite sphere offers both a visually striking display and a fascinating example of mineral fluorescence.
